How to Make Matcha
Your matcha is about finding the balance of flavors that you personally enjoy. Experiment with different ratios of matcha to water until you discover your favorite.
1. Sift with Intention – Sift 2–4 grams (1–2 teaspoons) of matcha into your bowl, adjusting to taste:
- 2g (1 tsp) – Traditional → Light & smooth, ideal for a classic matcha experience.
- 3g (1.5 tsp) – Signature → Richer and more full-bodied, perfect for those who prefer a deeper flavor.
- 4g (2 tsp) – Latte → Bold and robust, best for mixing with milk for a creamy matcha latte.
2. Perfect Temperature Matters – Add the initial 2 ounces of water at or below 176°F—never boiling, as excessive heat diminishes matcha’s delicate nuances.
3. Whisk to Perfection – Using a chasen (bamboo whisk), whisk vigorously in a zig-zag motion until the matcha is fully aerated and develops a fine froth—approximately 15 seconds.
4. Refine & Elevate – Adjust your final water or milk ratio based on matcha strength:
- Traditional (2g/1 tsp) → Add 2–4 oz water for a delicate, classic experience.
- Signature (3g/1.5 tsp) → Add 2–3 oz water and 1–2 oz milk for a creamier texture.
- Latte (4g/2 tsp) → Add 2 oz water and 4–6 oz milk for a smooth, velvety matcha latte.
Sifting is essential for the finest texture and most refined drinking experience.
